Otoplasty, also known as ear surgery, helps correct the size or position of your ears, making them harmonize with your face. This procedure is very simple applying a local anesthesia, with a rapid recovery process.
In otoplasty the appearance of the screen ears is corrected. These are the ears that come out of the face and making these do not have an appropriate appearance, therefore teasing is generated.
This surgery can be performed after age 7, since at this age the ears have a full development and can be submitted to surgery without any problem.
This procedure is performed by local anesthesia for adults, but general anesthesia is recommended for children since they may have some movement in surgery.
First, an incision is made in the back of the ear, very close to the fold of the union of the head. After this the cartilage is remodeled and the excess skin is extracted, then structuring the grooves. Finally, the cartilages are sutured and the edges of the skin are closed.
A bandage will be placed around the head so that the ears maintain their position, after a week the stitches will be removed and the bandage will be changed by an elastic band; which will provide the patient with greater comfort.
The recovery process is soon so it is not necessary to suspend your activities for a long time, but as much as possible it is recommended to be careful at bedtime I try not to bend the ears.
